Add page numbers to a PDF online

Number the whole document or just some pages, and choose the position, format, start number and size. The numbers are objects on the page, so you can adjust or undo them one by one.

How it works

  1. Open the PDF Choose a file or drop a PDF onto the page.
  2. Open "Add page numbers" Find it in the Page menu or the top bar.
  3. Set position and format Click one of top left, top center, top right, bottom left, bottom center or bottom right on the small page diagram. Choose the format "1", "1 / total" or "Page 1" style, set the start number and font size, and pick all pages or the selected ones.
  4. Confirm and export Click "Add" and numbers appear on every page; when you are happy, click "Export PDF".

Good to know

  • To leave the cover unnumbered, select every page except the cover in the thumbnails first, then choose "Selected pages"; adjust the start number to match.
  • Page numbers are ordinary text objects. Move, edit or delete them on the page, or undo the whole batch.
  • Chinese-style numbers such as "第 1 页" are exported as real, selectable text too.

FAQ

How do I number a PDF starting from page 3?

Select page 3 through the last page in the thumbnails, open "Add page numbers", choose "Selected pages" and set the start number you want.

Can the number go at the bottom center?

Yes. There are six positions; "Bottom center" puts it at the middle of the bottom edge.
